Is your time ever “free”?

It’s amazing how much fun you can have with your children when you take a screen free challenge for family time. Today we hung out and did some crocheting and my daughter came up with some interesting designs for her yarn and face paint. But all in all whenever we forget that we need to connect with each other, not just digitally and then we experience it, it really hits home that we are only human after all. It is amazing how much times have changed since my son Ian who would now be 11, was her age. There weren’t as many ubiquitous smart phones and iPads, so we spent a lot of time with him just looking at the color of leaves, skipping rocks, seeing how many birds were in the tree, wondering about the squirrels sitting on top of the birdhouse … That sort of 4-7 year old excitement. The relevance of time to reflect freely without structure is still there, but sometimes we just need a gentle reminder methinks!
